ONLINE FLYING

Introduction
Since the year 2003 or so that have we really seen a boost of online flights. IVAO and Vatsim are among the
largest and most well known networks for online flying. Aruba Flight Simulator Club has chosen
IVAO for its
official network
and our technical staff can assist you with any questions you may have about it.

Why fly online?
This is one of the most common questions in the Flight Simming world. First of all online flying will take you
to a new level in this hobby. Mistakes you got away with offline can and will certainly be noticed while flying
online but don't let this intimidate you! You have to realize that all of the ones flying and controlling online had
to go through the same steps as you may be about to. Either flying/controlling for a hobby or to pursue a
career, going online will help you learn many new things related to this hobby and aviation in general.
Many people have used this hobby to get their feet wet before studying to become a private a/o commercial
pilot and many of them still use it to stay sharp. Flying online you will also have a chance to meet and befriend
people from all over the world. On a typical peak hour you can find between 600 to 900
IVAO members online.
You will also be able to speak directly to the controllers a/o pilots via a voice software. In other words it is
a highly realistic simulation environment.

Membership
One of the best things about online flying via IVAO is that the membership is completely free. If you want to join
IVAO just visit
this link and follow the instructions. After your registration is complete you will receive a VID
number, your IVAN password and a Website password via email. Your VID (Virtual ID) is used to identify you
online and is also referred to as your IVAO member number. IVAN password is used in conjunction with your
VID when logging on to fly or control online. Your Website password is used to access members only sections
on the
IVAO website. You can also browse other Aruban IVAO members on this list.

Softwares
Just a reminder, before you can download any softwares you need to register and become a member of IVAO.
Your first and most important download should be the IVAP and this can be downloaded
here.
The IVAP also includes Teamspeak and MTL. Once installed the IVAP will appear in your Flight Sim.
This IVAP is the main program you need to go online and it will automatically create a multiplayer session for
you in your FS. When installing the IVAP you will notice that it will also install the Teamspeak, this is the official
voice client or voice program for IVAO. Another important part of the IVAP installation is the MTL. So we can all
see each other in the correct aircrafts and schemes on IVAO, the MTL needs to be installed. Another
interesting download is the IVAE. The IVAE is a separate software from IVAO to see who is connected on the
network and what they are doing. It is sometimes also referred to as the flight board and can be installed on
any computer even if you do not have Flight Simulator installed. Last but not least is the IVAC, this is for those
who would like to control online (ATC).

Basic knowledge
Before you go online there are some basic things you need to know a/o be aware of.

  • You should be able to fly, maneuver and land your aircraft.

  • You should be familiar with the default offline ATC instructions as this is very similar to what you
will experience online.

  • You should be able to comply with ATC instructions, including maintaining a heading, altitude etc.

  • You are expected to be able to fill in a flightplan, if not ask assistance from ATC or SUP (Supervisors).

Important to mention is that you should NEVER connect on a runway, always start  at a gate. Once online
please tune your COMM1 to frequency 122.80 (UNICOM) if there is no ATC online.
Announce via text all of your
aircraft movement and intentions (for example: ARU1234 takeoff runway 11 TNCA).
